Dockery Stables is a small, family owned farm located in eastern mid-Michigan. We live on 80 acres, raise Tennessee Walking Horses, and run our family owned and operated business, "Bayside Seeds". Our family consists of myself, Gail, my husband Jim, and our three incredible children Justin, Noah, and Hannah. I have been involved with horses for over 35 years, specifically the Tennessee Walking horse for over 20 years. I have found their smooth gait and wonderful disposition to be incomparable and a pleasure to work with. We raise, breed, show and trail ride our TWH's. We are proud to stand a marvelous, exceptionally talented, black and white tobiano TWH stallion "Hardcastle's Prime Sun" (Champ). Champ has won many lite shod and trail pleasure state championships, and also holds National lite shod and Res. World Champion titles in lite shod, trail pleasure and model divisions. He has been the "perfect" stallion in our eyes. He is not only a gorgeous animal with loads of presence, but he has incredible talent rarely seen in a spotted walking horse. He does not rack or perform a combination of saddle gaits, he does a true head nodding flatwalk and runningwalk, with a big overstride, huge front lift out of the shoulder and impeccable timing. As a result of this wonderful gait, he has been a huge success in the showring. He has a big way of going, and he does it naturally! He also performs a gorgeous, slow, collected rocking chair canter. In addition to his talent, and proven abilities in the showring, he has a disposition like we've never seen in a stallion. He is calm, respectful, intelligent, patient, and lives to please. His offspring are also reportedly calm and easy to train and handle. To learn more about our stallion, view pic's and video clips, or print off a breeding contract, visit our stallion page at: http://www.alwayswalkin.com/stallion.htm
We are also very strong advocates of the sound horse movement, and only work with horses who perfom naturally without gait enhancing or soring techniques of any kind. Due to our past encounters with trainers who claimed to train naturally, but practiced other methods behind closed doors, we are all too familiar with many of the "tactics" some walking horse trainers resort to in order to improve a horse's gait. We find those training methods despictable and do not support them in any way. Our horses are first and foremost bred for the natural, barefoot true walking gait. We never take a horse who doesn't gait and try to force an unnatural, crampy movement with heavy shoes, weights or painful techniques. We start with horses who walk and nod and perform the gait naturally, then we build on that using natural horsemanship methods which may include everything from dressage to reining exercises to develop the horse's flexibility, collection, balance, timing, and gait through proper training. We are dedicated to promoting the sound, natural gaited horse and to helping people and horses reach their fullest potential naturally with proper training, rather than "quick fixes" that typically injure the horse and result in a shorter career. All of our horses are exceptionally talented, well gaited an competitive in the showring.........and they are always walkin' NATURALLY and 100% sound!!
